Adult Education Lecture: Simplicity Parenting
with Kim John Payne, M.Ed.

Why Less is More for Children...Five Steps You Can Take to Help Your Child to Feel Calmer, Happier and More Secure. So much of modern life seems to be about more. Very few presentations you will attend will suggest that you do less, but this is one of them. It quietly presents 'do-able' daily ways in which we can simplify our families lives and by doing so build resiliency within our children. Kim will bring practical examples and reasons behind simplifying your home life in areas such as environment, food and mealtimes, your family's schedule, adult information, and discipline.

I See What You Mean - Speech in Education, Speech in Our Lives
An evening talk with Helen Lubin

The spoken word has the potential to form, confirm and free the growing human being. As an integral aspect of Waldorf education, "speech" work furthers healthy development at every stage. During this evening of presentation and conversation, we will look at how the presence, activity and meaning that can live in this uniquely human capacity of speech cultivates the ongoing conversation between the world and the individual.

February 21-24, 2007
Antioch New England Course: Collaborative Counseling - Year One at Three Cedars
with Torin Finswer, Ph.D. and Kim John Payne, M.Ed.

"Who are these Children? The Search for Authenticity" This course explores the changing social, emotional, and behavioral needs of children and teens. We examine the sensory and social overwhelm many children experience and the longer term developmental reactions to cumulative stress often associated with fast-paced, contemporary life styles. What can we do to help the parent and teacher build the child and teen’s inner strength and resiliency? We use a practical approach to bring teacher, therapist, and parent together for greater collaboration around the child or teen with extra needs. We continue to deepen the theme of parent-teacher relationships. Exploring common obstacles to collaboration and developing practical strategies by suspending assumptions allows us to shift from fixed demands to uncovering real needs. We define the role of the collaborative counselor and what this role asks of us in terms of vocation and inner development.
